Esra NEWS Agency: This morning (Thursday, 26th of Mordad), the weekly Akhlaq Session of Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli was held with the presence of a group of students from seminaries from Mazandaran province. The Akhlaq session was also broadcast live online.

In this meeting, Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli continued the discussion of Nahj al-Balagha - Wisdom 113.

His Eminence said, “The blessed existence of Amir al-Mominin, peace be upon him, in 113th wisdom, of Nahj al-Balaghah, says: «لَا مَالَ أَعْوَدُ مِنَ الْعَقْلِ، وَ لَا وَحْدَةَ أَوْحَشُ مِنَ الْعُجْبِ، وَ لَا عَقْلَ كَالتَّدْبِیرِ، وَ لَا كَرَمَ كَالتَّقْوَى...» "No wealth grows back like reason, and no loneliness is more frightening than pride, and no wisdom is like planning, and no greatness is greater than piety” What should be discussed in this meeting is what is the value of science and what is the duty of scholars and people towards knowledge.”

Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli said, “Mullah Amirul Momineen said at the beginning of this wisdom, «لَا مَالَ أَعْوَدُ مِنَ الْعَقْلِ»  [There is no wealth more beneficial than intellect], in the definition of wealth, have been mentioned that wealth is called wealth because «یمیل علیه الطبع»(every nature like it); Remember, the Arabic language is different from the Persian language (and any other language), there are many distinctions in the Arabic language, for example, in Persian we call someone who is not in good financial condition a beggar, but the Quran says “Faqir”; “Faqir” means someone whose spine is broken and does not have the strength to stand up; Allah says in the Qur'an: ﴿لا تُؤْتُوا السُّفَهاءَ أَمْوالَكُمُ الَّتی‏ جَعَلَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ قِیاماً﴾Do you know what wealth is? Wealth is your standing factor. Don't just give away your property to one you do not know, don't give your property to someone who is embezzling or someone who doesn't have the power to plan; Money is the cause of your standing up, if a nation wants to stand, its pockets must be full. A nation with empty pockets cannot stand, it has fallen. This is not a beggar, this is a “Faqir”. “Faqir” means his spine is broken.”

He stated, “wealth is not like wisdom. wisdom is higher than knowledge. You, who are on the path of knowledge, should not be satisfied with knowledge, but try to practice what you have learned and pass it on to the society. The Holy Quran insists when someone who try to gain knowledge, should not stop in the middle of the path, but go to the end; becoming a scholar, for the seeker of knowledge, is the middle of the road, and the goal of Howzeh is not to become a scholar, but to become wise!”

His Eminence continued, “The Holy Qur'an said that this knowledge is a foundation and a ladder, that one can progress and become wise if he is a scholar ﴿وَتِلْكَ الْأَمْثَالُ نَضْرِبُهَا لِلنَّاسِ وَمَا یعْقِلُهَا إِلَّا الْعَالِمُونَ﴾; knowledge is the basis for becoming wise. It is important that a person takes advantage of this knowledge and uses it to become wise, so Amirul Momineen said, «رُبَّ عَالِمٍ قَدْ قَتَلَهُ جَهْلُهُ وَ عِلْمُهُ مَعَهُ لَا ینْفَعُهُ» There are many knowledgeable scholars whom are killed by their ignorance. Someone may study for a few years and become a scholar, but until he is not an act on that knowledge, it has no effect. If a scholar is not following his knowledge, he is caught by the internal enemy.”

He stated, “A person who studied, became a scholar, has the ability to teach and lecture, but did not follow his knowledge by act, he is struggling with the internal enemy and will definitely fail.”

His Eminence continued, “Amir al-Mominin said that knowledge is higher than wealth, because wealth could deviate his owner, but knowledge is needed for guidance, a part of the way. Knowledge is a light, and a light is for seeing the path. A person does not reach his destination with a light, but It is through taking step in the path is what makes one reaches the destination. If knowledge is combined with action, it becomes wisdom; “Iqal” is a band with which the knees of a rebellious camel are bound, and that is why reason is called “Aql”, because it bans the playfulness, it catches unruly desires, ignorance, pride, lust, and anger and makes it “Iqal”. If one did all of these, would be wise; And until “the Nafs Amrah” is not rationalized, it will not reach reason and will not benefit.”

At the end, he addressed the young “Talaba” present in the meeting: "In the youth, you are perioded by all the means are available. Try to become a scholar, but know that becoming a scholar is midway, but you must act on this knowledge in order to Become what you understand, it means applying what you have understood in your life, then you can enlighten the society. We all have a duty to be careful with our language, behavior, speech and expression, not to speak inappropriately and unscientifically, and not even to listen. If people see that their scholars whom has spent a lifetime in purity, has no misbehavior, illiteracy, scientific ignorance, and practical ignorance, they will listen to his advice because they know that he is their benefactor.”
