Esra News Agency: During paying visit to the holy shrines, Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli, in a grand ceremony held near the sacred shrine of Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, donated a complete set of the noble Tasnim exegesis in 80 volumes to the Holy Shrine of Imam Ali (peace be upon him).
In this ceremony, attended by the custodians and a group of officials of the Alavi Shrine, as well as dozens of scholars and professors from the seminary of Najaf Al-Ashraf, Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli spoke about the significance of the Holy Quran and the Ahlul-Bayt (peace be upon them).
The text of his speech is as follows:
I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed devil.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Absolute praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, and peace and blessings be upon all the prophets and messengers, the guiding Imams, the Mahdis, and Fatimah al-Zahra. We take them as our Guardians and disassociate ourselves from their enemies before Allah.
And peace be upon Amir al-Mu'minin, the Commander of the Worlds by the permission of his Creator, the Commander of the Tablet and the Pen, the Commander of the Kingdom and the Kingdom of Heaven, and the Commander of this world and the Hereafter, Ali ibn Abi Talib, upon whom the best blessings of the blessers be.
We honor your esteemed presence and the esteemed scholars of the seminary of Najaf, as well as the respected officials of the Alavi Holy Shrine, and we express our gratitude to all these distinguished individuals!
Tasnim and works alike Tasnim—from the past to the future—will flourish first and foremost by the blessings of Imam Ali (peace and blessings be upon him), and secondly through the auspicious Hawza of Najaf.
The Most Sacred Divine Essence has declared regarding the Noble Quran that from the past to the future, from bygone eras to what is yet to come, this Book is safeguarded:
﴿لا يأتيه الباطل من بين يديه و لا من خلفه﴾؛
"Falsehood does not approach it from before it or from behind it"; [1] it is a book that no outsider can enter its sacred sanctuary, and a book that no plunderer can ever dream to violate its sanctity; be it the caravan of jinn or the caravan of humans, be it Arab or non-Arab, whether from the East or the West, whether from the North or the South.
This book is the direct word of God, and its speakers are Ali and the descendants of Ali, peace be upon them. No one has the right to speak on behalf of this sacred sanctuary, None have the right to access this Book except the Inherently Pure (al-Muṭahharūn bil-Aṣālah) in the first degree; thereafter, in the shadow of the Pure Ones, the purified and devout disciples may attain comprehension of this Book in the second degree.
Our master and the master of the two worlds, Ali ibn Abi Talib (may the best prayers of those who pray be upon him), has indeed elaborated by saying: “This is the Quran, so ask it to speak, but it will not speak with you. However, I will inform you about it”.
For Ali, peace be upon him, is the speaking Quran, and the Quran is the silent Ali. There is no distinction between Ali and the other Imams, the guided ones, for God's official statement is that this book "none touch it except the purified" [2], and the verse of Surah Al-Ahzab considers Ali and his descendants as purified; [3] "none touch it except Ali and his lineage."
The true interpreters of the Noble Qur’an are the purified ones, for their master of eloquence, the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him), explicitly declared that this Book belongs to God: 'Ask it to speak, but it will not speak; rather, I will inform you about it.'[4] Yet the Shi'a of Ali—the followers of the Master of Eloquence and students of the Master of Expression—by virtue of their share in purity, will attain the ability to understand the Noble Qur’an through divine blessing and permission.
The students of the Master of Expression and Eloquence (i.e., Imam Ali and the Ahl al-Bayt)—those purified beings themselves—are none other than the purified. Firstly, it is the purified one who is the student of the inherently pure ones, and the place of acquiring purity is the divine sanctuaries known as mosques. Secondly, among these sanctuaries centered on purity is the Mosque of Qubā. Thirdly:
﴿لمسجد اسس علی التقوی من اول يوم احق ان تقوم فيه﴾
'A mosque founded on piety from the first day is more worthy of your standing in it' (Qur'an 9:108). Why? Because,
﴿فيه رجال يحبون ان يتطهروا﴾
'In it are men who love to purify themselves' [5]—not that they seek worldly knowledge, trade it for profit, buy status, or let the world dominate them. 'Only the pure, the pure, the pure understands the Qur'an!' 'In it are men who love to purify themselves'—so that the students may become purified and thus establish a connection with the Noble Qur'an.
Allah the Exalted states:
﴿لمسجد اسس علی التقوی من اول يوم احق ان تقوم فيه﴾،
'A mosque founded on piety from the first day is more worthy of your standing in it' (Qur'an 9:108). Why? Is it because 'in it are men who love to be known, love to learn, love to become jurists, authors, scholars, and so on'? No! Rather, ‘in it are men who love to purify themselves’ from the world, from all but God, from desires, from sin—until they first become human, and only then are they permitted to touch the Qur'an.'
Unless one becomes human, they will never become Qur'anic!
﴿الرحمن ٭علم القرآن ٭خلق الانسان﴾
'The Most Merciful, taught the Qur'an, created man' (Qur'an 55:1-3). He did not say, 'The Most Merciful created man and taught him the Qur'an,' but 'The Most Merciful, taught the Qur'an, created man.' Unless one becomes Qur'anic, they are not human; unless one belongs to the Qur'an, they are not human—for
﴿اولئک کالأنعام بل هم أضل﴾
'they are like cattle, nay even more astray' (Qur'an 7:179). Unless one thinks divinely, reflects divinely, and contemplates divinely, they are not human.
Yes, as our Master Ali (peace be upon him) said! Ali (upon him be the best blessings of the blessers) declared:
«فالصورة صورة انسان و القلب قلب حيوان ... و ذلک ميت الأحياء»
'Their form is the form of a human, but their heart is the heart of a beast... they are the dead resembling the living.' [8] Thus, Allah the Exalted states: 'The Most Merciful, taught the Qur'an, created man.'
Although this gathering has been most scholarly and academic, and this blessed assembly of yours—great scholars, researchers, authors, and luminaries of the venerable and blessed seminary of Najaf—is truly illustrious, the physical condition and state of the speaker are not favorable. Please accept this apology. But my final discussion is this: This divine book (the Qur'an) was compiled over forty years through the efforts and struggles of the pure seminarians—those purified from transient attachments, purified from the illusions of 'I' and 'We,' purified from all but Ali and the progeny of Ali. Four generations, each spanning ten years, undertook this journey until the exegesis of this divine book, from beginning to end, was accomplished.
The Sacred Divine Essence told us that this [the Quran] is, first and foremost, a book of knowledge. Secondly, it informs you of the past in detail. Thirdly, it makes you aware of the future. But—and a thousand buts—He said there are certain matters in this book that not only you, but even the Prophet himself (upon him and his progeny be endless salutations and praise), if he were to traverse the East and the West, would not have access to them.
The Sacred Divine Essence explicitly declared that in this book, there are matters that did not exist in the past and will not exist in the future, and no one—not even you, O Prophet—can comprehend them without Our teaching. Those verses are as follows: Sometimes the Qur'an states: 'He teaches them the Book and Wisdom' (Qur'an 2:129). At other times, it says: 'And He teaches you what you never could have known' (Qur'an 2:151). And to the Prophet himself (upon him and his progeny be peace), it says: 'And He taught you what you never could have known' (Qur'an 4:113). Here, there are two categories of verses: One group says that God is the Teacher ('He teaches them the Book and Wisdom'), while the second group consists of verses that say you could never have learned these things from anywhere else: 'And He teaches you what you never could have known.' This negative 'could' (لم تکونوا تعلمون) implies that if it were not for Us, these words would not exist anywhere in the world! 'And He teaches you'—not 'what you did not know' (ما لا تعلمون), but 'what you never could have known' (ما لم تکونوا تعلمون). To the Prophet Himself, He said: 'And He taught you what you never could have known' (ما لم تکن تعلم), not 'what you did not know' (ما لا تعلم). 'What you did not know' means you were unaware, and We taught you—now you might learn it elsewhere. But 'what you never could have known' means it was beyond your capacity—where could you have learned it?"
To humanity, He declares: 'We reveal the secrets of the celestial realm—where else could you learn them? We disclose the realities of the Barzakh (intermediate realm)—where else could you learn them? We inform you of the Resurrection—where else could you learn them?'
Thus, this is a book that now, having descended, 'none can touch it except the purified' (Qur'an 56:79). Even if someone is pure (مطهَّر), just (عادل), and wise (عاقل), without the Qur'an, they could never attain this knowledge. And now that it is here, it is only for the purified—those who 'love to purify themselves' (Qur'an 9:108).
The Qur'an is a book whose rightful due is never fully rendered, and you, honored scholars, also hold immense rights. Yet, the speaker is incapable of fulfilling the first (the Qur'an's due) or the second (your rights). May you forgive this shortcoming!
The blessed seminary of Najaf holds a right of instruction over all of us. The scholars of Najaf hold a right over all of us. The authors of Najaf hold a right over all of us. The blessed seminary of Najaf itself holds a right over all seminaries of the Islamic world, for it is a source of divine grace (barakah)—because they received their knowledge from Ali (peace and blessings be upon him). The blessings that have reached us are but a fraction of the divine effusions (fuyūḍāt) bestowed upon society through the grace of Ali ibn Abi Talib.
Long before the location of Ali's sacred grave was revealed, this was already a seminary. Abū Ḥamzah al-Thumālī, the distinguished student of Imam Zayn al-ʿĀbidīn (peace be upon him), would leave Kufa daily and come to this very area. A few students would gather around him, though none knew why Abū Ḥamzah came here or why these students surrounded him. Abū Ḥamzah chose this place as a seminary because it was near the grave of Ali ibn Abi Talib—a site of immense blessing. [12] Through Imam Zayn al-ʿĀbidīn, Abū Ḥamzah had discerned the location of Ali's grave. He would sit there, teach a handful of students, and remain unnoticed by outsiders. Only later was it discovered why he came here and why he chose this place for teaching. From that day to now, the entire Islamic world is indebted to Ali ibn Abi Talib and Najaf...
In closing, with renewed gratitude and apologies, we beseech the Sacred Divine Essence that the seminaries across the Islamic world—especially Najaf—the scholars and grand jurists of the Islamic world—especially Najaf—and all regions under the sanctuary of WilVerse (divine guardianship)—especially Najaf—may be encompassed by the prayers of the Awaited Imam (may our souls be his ransom). May all of you, honored lovers of the Qur'an and the Ahl al-Bayt, abide under the shadow of the Living Promised Mahdi's grace."
Let us not forget what is happening in Gaza! The Sacred Divine Essence states in this very Qur'an, addressing the Noble Messenger (upon him and his family be endless salutations and praise): 'You will always uncover treachery from them' (Qur'an 5:13). They have repeatedly betrayed, repeatedly shown malice. The Divine Essence told His Prophet that they plot daily against Islam and Muslims. May Israel and its founders, Israel and its supporters, Israel and its ideologues, be encompassed by divine wrath and punishment!
'May God forgive us and you. Peace be upon you, and God's mercy and blessings.'
'And upon you be peace, mercy, and blessings. Send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.'
