Advancement of Rational Sciences in Iran: the Scientific Legacy of ʿAllāmah Mullā Abdullah Bahābādī Yazdī” was held and it was attended by scholars, professors, researchers, and intellectuals from Fars Province, Iran.

In his message to this conference, Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli honored the scientific figures of Shiraz and expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the event. He then referred to the philosophical tradition of the city of Shiraz and its historic role in nurturing great theosophists. He stated: having raised great men and insightful thinkers within its embrace, the city of Shiraz gained value across all times and epochs through their blessings. The great figures of this region were always seekers of elevation, not diminution; they never sought to acquire knowledge and love cheaply, but through lofty aspiration they purchased them at the highest possible price.
Referring to a related famous poem by Hafez, “Be not without knowledge, for in the marketplace of love, people of insight transact only with the well-acquainted,” his eminence added: Through their scientific desire for elevation, the theosophists of Shiraz, including Ṣadr al-Mutaʾallihīn [Mulla Sadra] and Mullā Abdullah Yazdī, went beyond the scientific teachings of their predecessors and transformed their teachings into a ladder for the advancement of theosophy. Thus, they did not settle for knowledge alone; rather, they embedded within their souls a love for worship and knowledge.
Elaborating on the distinction between the elimination of nescience, the elimination of heedlessness, and the elimination of widespread ignorance, his eminence further asserted: The Islamic seminaries and universities are responsible for teaching knowledge and eliminating nescience; the mosques and other similar centers for the spread of ethics are responsible for eliminating heedlessness; however, combating widespread ignorance is possible only within the system of Imamate and the Ummah. The theosophists of Shiraz have played a significant role in this sacred mission; they were able to hear the speech of the heavens, earth, trees, stones, and all created beings in their hearts, and they viewed the world as a divinely-established school.
In conclusion, honoring the intellectual standing of this school, Grand Ayatollah Javadi Amoli, stated: The school of Shiraz not only contributed to the elimination of nescience and heedlessness, but by relying on rationality and Tawḥīd, it advanced the cause of elimination of ignorance, a cause that must also be kept advancing strongly today.
