Hojatoleslam Morteza Javadi Amoli, Head of the International Foundation of Revealed Sciences stated at the national conference titled “The School and Conduct of the Prophet of God (ṣ): Personally Instructive and Socially Constructive Islamic Human Sciences” which was held on Thursday, December 18, at the auditorium of the Research Institute of Hawzah and University in Qom: The world is the truth and has issued forth from Absolute Truth. Every being possesses a share of the truth, and human beings likewise have the capacity to draw near to the truth and attain it. The very meaning of research is the knowing of the truth.

He stated: Among elites and researchers, three fundamental questions are always raised. The first question is whether an Islamic government, grounded in the pure school of Islam brought by the Prophet Muhammad (ṣ), possesses the capacity of proper human upbringing, fostering development of the human society, and realizing God’s promises [with respect to these arenas]. Can give human beings the kind of upbringing that helps them attain their due dignified status and reach the truth and justice? This must be made possible through revealed teachings.

He then continued: Another question is whether a school with a history of fourteen hundred years can be compatible with contemporary advancements. We have yet to fully understand the revealed school of thought; the breadth and depth of religious teachings grant us the capacity to provide appropriate resources for responding to this question.

Hojatoleslam Morteza Javadi Amoli stated: Another question concerns whether the systems that are currently in place in the world have succeeded in resolving social problems. Is there not a shortcoming or deficiency observable in today’s global institutions with respect to governing the world? He emphasized: Another crucial question is this: if we claim that, by virtue of its teachings, truths, and rich doctrines, Islam possesses the capacity to establish a worthier model, one that gives human beings proper upbringing and under whose protection the society may enjoy security and peace, then how does the school of Islam perceive contemporary problems and provide solutions to them? The answer to this question is ijtihād.

Hojatoleslam Morteza Javadi Amoli further stated: The instrument of ijtihād has become exceedingly worn-out in our time. With such a worn-out instrument, one cannot produce a school capable of resolving human problems and fostering social development. Today, the instrument of ijtihād lacks the capability to access the necessary sources effectively and is unable to confront challenges; therefore, ijtihād is in need of reassessment and innovation.

He then concluded his remarks, stating: The very possibility of establishing a government based on the revealed school of the Prophet of God (ṣ), one capable of outperforming all the other forms of governance in the world, has been called into question. Therefore, we first need to provide well-grounded answers to these fundamental questions.
